The Bookmakers and Dreamers Club is a group of students from Groton-Dunstable Middle School in Massachusetts. We are devoted to promoting the idea that kids CAN make a difference in helping to create a more peaceful world. Our after-school club has been meeting since 2004 in order to create a book that tells our story and includes letters, statements, quotes, poetry, artwork and even songs that we have collected in our questions about world peace.
We have contacted people from all over the world, from a wide variety of political and religious beliefs. We’ve received responses from nearly 1000 people from all walks of life. Nobel laureates President Jimmy Carter, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama were among the first to respond. Since then, we have received correspondence from veterans, school children, politicians and religious leaders from around the globe.
We are committed to learning about prospects for world peace and sharing our knowledge with others. We were given a wonderful opportunity to tell our story at the United Nations International Day of Peace Youth Conference on September 19, 2008.
Hoping to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records, our book will be an amazing 12 feet tall by 10 feet wide, weighing more than a ton. It will contain over 500 double-sided pages. Our ultimate goal is to share these messages of peace and hope with children worldwide by displaying our giant book in major museums internationally. Learn more about the book here.
